Comicbook.com has released a document from Wizards Of The Coast claiming to be a new 2022 Playtest for “Monsters Of The Multiverse” in the “Unearthed Arcana” game setting.
Clearly the documents says “do not distribute” however with one page of the five page play test dated 2021 might have been enough to get the document smuggled out.
Either way, legitimate or business hoax this hype is for the next release of Dungeons & Dragons coming in 2022 / 2023 BEFORE the release of 6E.
Wadda talking about?
Clearly, you don’t understand how to play Dungeons & Dragons on the new multiverse setting heading into the 6E release.
The point here, the new Dungeons & Dragons game setting takes plays in 5E and 6E in a middle game setting based on the last release for 5E over the next two years.
New material to be released this year in 2022 include a new Spelljammer and Dragonlance series for AFTER the release of “Monsters Of The Multiverse” Out Now.
The new set just called “Dungeons & Dragons” is built on 5E, the new Spelljammer and Dragonlance series coming later this year will include those rules as well as the new expanded rules from “Monsters Of The Multiverse”.
That is a preview version of the new 6E Release in 2024, Hasbro Dungeons & Dragons says those publications will be compatible with the current “Monsters Of The Multiverse” release out now.
The new play test is from the “Unearthed Arcana” series and focuses on giants according to the article.
The connection here is “Monsters Of The Multiverse” is expanding into playable monsters and using the “Unearthed Arcana” series to make the transition, a part of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons not clearly defined.
This will allow players to play as giants with higher ability scores over 18 and maybe up to 25.
The new play test allows players to choose characters that morph into a monster role like a werewolf that slowly transitions to the larger expanded rule set and BECOMES a monster, perhaps even transitioning into a giant themself in “Unearthed Arcana”.
Other new options include enhanced magic item and potentially spell enhancements by incorporating new schools into character classes to allow them to use “runes” to enhance spells and magic items.
I’m not sure if they mean spell enhancement in this book, but magic item enhancement is listed by using “rune modifiers”, this could also be included as a card game or cards in the game play that come up when you play a “rune card” to alter magic items and spells with different “runes” during game play.
New feats in the game including “monster feats” that allow players to gain the power of giants and elemental power by adopting it into game play allowing the characters to become fire or wind resistant, skills from a character with higher ability scores playing in the “Unearthed Arcana” realm.
The actual document is titled “Unearthed Arcana 2022” and the document is actually written as a playtest for the “giant options” in the game settings.
In the game rules, Players Handbook features, the Barbarian can now BECOME a giant by transitioning into the “Unearthed Arcana” giant rule set in the new series.
This five page rule set is “giant options” for several classes Barbarian, Druid and Wizard.
These classes in the new Dungeons & Dragons books coming out soon have the giant options, making this document a “Players Handbook” update with “Unearthed Arcana” setting features.
The Barbarian can become a giant (?) or adopt their skills to become his version I am assuming with higher ability scores, the Druid now has the “Circle Of Primeval” that can allow them to summon a “primeval companion” such as a monster to play as a non-playing character that they can control during the game and wizards can become “Runecrafters” that can use “runes” to alter or affect their spells and magic items.
